Shape the future of competitions - Have your say

Swim England is launching a major review of competitions across all our aquatic sports, and we need your insight.

Whether you’re an athlete, coach, parent, volunteer, official or event organiser, your experience matters. This is your opportunity to help shape how competitions look and feel in the years ahead.

Why We’re Doing This

Competitions are at the heart of our sports. From grassroots meets to national championships, they bring people together and help every participant grow.

However, as participation and expectations change, it’s time to look again at how competitions work for everyone.

This Competition Review is about listening, learning and improving together. We want to:

• Understand the current competition experience, including entry processes, formats, costs and qualification routes.
• Identify what works well and where things could be better.
• Explore ways to make competitions more inclusive, accessible and enjoyable.
• Gather new ideas and feedback to shape a stronger future for our sports.

What This Means

This consultation is not about immediate change. No structural updates will happen until at least summer 2027.

Instead, this is your chance to share your honest views and influence the direction of future competitions. Your input will help Swim England support athletes, clubs and volunteers more effectively at every level.

Who Can Take Part

We’re inviting everyone involved in our aquatic community to have their say:

• Participants and parents: share your experiences from the poolside or stands.
• Coaches and officials: tell us what works and what could improve.
• Volunteers and event organisers: help make competitions more enjoyable for everyone.
• Partners and stakeholders: spread the word and encourage your communities to take part.

How to Get Involved

The Competition Review Survey is now open until 3 December 2025.
It only takes a few minutes to complete, and your answers will be treated confidentially.

What Happens Next

Your insight will shape the next stage of the review, guiding how competitions evolve in the future. Any structural updates will be confirmed no earlier than 2027, with clear communication and support provided well in advance.
