Prime Minster Boris Johnson is due to give further details on the guidelines, which will come into force on Monday 14 September, at a press conference this afternoon.

A Swim England spokesperson said: “Pools are extremely well-managed spaces where we can create safe environments.

“Operators and facility owners have been following Swim England guidance developed in conjunction with Public Health England and medical professionals.

“As aquatic activity has been operating under a Government-accepted Covid-secure framework, we believe that swimming pools should be unaffected.

“It is essential for the health and wellbeing of the nation and the future viability of leisure facilities and aquatic clubs up and down the country that this is case.”
