Swim England News

We are pleased to announce that Swim England CEO, Andy Salmon has been elected as Chair of the Swimming Alliance, a collaborative group representing voices across the aquatic sector, with Andrew Clarke, Head of Sports & Aquatics at GLL, elected to the role of Vice-Chair.

The alliance brings together 27 leading national organisations united to address the urgent and systemic challenges facing swimming and aquatic participation across the UK.

By joining together and providing one single, cohesive voice, the Swimming Alliance aims to develop solutions to crucial issues affecting public swimming pools and open water spaces across the UK.

The Swim Alliance’s has three key missions: everybody has the opportunity to swim with confidence, without barriers; the workforce is well-supported, welcoming and encouraging everyone to enjoy swimming and ensuring that people can swim inside and outside, in clean, local, financially sustainable venues.

Andy spoke of his new appointment, “I’m honoured to be taking up the role of the Chair of the Swimming Alliance. The group represents the fantastic work that we can all do across the sector, when we have one collective voice.

“The Swimming Alliance focuses on the core issues that affect all our sports that we love and care about deeply. By working together with government, providers and communities, we can further our aims such as protecting access to water, improving school swimming and water safety and tackling the inequalities we see within aquatics.”

Andy paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the previous chairs Debbie Kaye and Danielle Obe, who both worked tirelessly in setting out the aims and objectives of the Swimming Alliance.
