Swim England release health resource on female nutrition
6 March 2025Swim England has recently published its latest female health resource, focused on female nutrition for aquatic participants.
The detailed article, developed by members of the Swim England Talent and Sport Science teams, provides in-depth information on the nutritional considerations for athletes to support both their health and performance.
The piece explores five key areas of energy availability, carbohydrate intake, the menstrual cycle, iron and calcium to help with the physical demands of training and competition.
It’s the second in a series of resources that the national governing body is producing to provide information on female health subjects for people who enjoy aquatics for both leisure and competition.
The first resource on the menstrual cycle was released late last year, whilst documents on topics such as contraception and the menopause are set to be released in the coming months.
The document is now available on the female health section of the Swim England website, which can be found here.
Providing the knowledge
Speaking on the release of the latest resource, Swim England’s Sport Science and Medicine Manager Diane Elliot said: “We’re thrilled to introduce our latest female health resource on female nutrition.
“The team have worked hard to pull this information together to help anyone in aquatics to fuel themselves properly ahead of a general swim, training or a competition.
“Our goal with these resources is to provide the knowledge so that every female can remain active, and we hope that this information helps females to both understand their bodies better and increases their confidence.”
