Inspire Coach Mentoring Programme 2023-2024

Swim England’s Inspire Coach Mentoring programme for 2023-2024 provides a unique coach development opportunity for coaches who are predominantly working with age-group and early youth level athletes within the Swim England Talent Pathways Swimming, Para Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Artistic Swimming

Each coach will be assigned a mentor from our Swim England National and Regional Coach Developer team who will work with the coach to provide bespoke, in situ support guided by the creation of an Individual Development plan.

The programme will run for a 12-month period from September 2023 until August 2024 and will provide an opportunity for mentored coaches to receive bespoke support relative to their Individual Development plan, take part in small group communities of practice, and enjoy programme visits both from and to your Coach Developer.

Mentoring will be delivered through both online and face to face interactions, and our experienced Coach Developers will facilitate coach development in both technical and non-technical areas.

Dates and times for the visits and monthly individual/group interactions will be arranged between the individual and the Coach Developer nearer the time.

Criteria for consideration

• Aimed at coaches who are predominantly working with age-group and early youth level athletes within the Swim England Talent Pathways for Swimming, Para-Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Artistic Swimming.
• Qualified as a Swim England Coach (Level 2) or equivalent as a minimum.
• Coaches who are proactive, open-minded and have a strong appetite for learning; demonstrating a willingness to engage with coaching peers and make an active contribution to group discussions.
• Coaches who have engaged with the Talent Pathway.
• Be able to commit to the mentoring programme over the 12-month period.

Further information

• Places vary from region to region and sport to sport, depending on mentoring capacity and retaining existing mentees on the programme from the 2022-23 season.
• Applications will be reviewed against the above criteria, together with insight gathered by the Swim England Coaching team, the Swim England Talent Leads, Swim England Talent Officers and Regional Officers.
• This programme is charged at £100 per mentee but 10% and 20% discounts are available for coaches that join the Swim England Coach and Coach Plus membership.
• Swim England are fully committed to providing an inclusive Coach Development offer. Whilst we have set a cost of £100 for this programme, we ask that you contact us directly, in confidence, if this fee is presenting a barrier to your application.
• Coaches will be responsible for paying their own travel/subsidence costs as a result of the visits/monthly meetings.
