Michael Gunning to host 2022 Swim England National Awards

Former Great Britain and Jamaica swimmer Michael Gunning is ‘excited’ to be hosting this year’s Swim England National Awards.

Michael will host the ceremony on Saturday 26 November inside the Great Hall at the University of Birmingham.

A number of awards are up for grabs which recognise and celebrate the incredible spirit of the aquatics community – and Michael is looking forward to celebrating the achievements of our finalists and award winners.

He said: “I’m so excited to be the host of the Swim England National Awards 2022!

“We’ve had such amazing success and achievements in the past year in aquatics. I’ve been involved in swimming all my life and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without it, so I’m excited to be hosting, to celebrate and shine a light on all these amazing achievements.”

‘I feel extremely lucky and honoured’

Michael is well known within the aquatics community after dedicating his life to swimming. He competed at both the 2017 and 2019 World Aquatics Championships and is looking forward to returning to Birmingham after hosting inside the Sandwell Aquatics Centre as part of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

“These awards come off the back of a home Commonwealth Games in Birmingham which brings an added buzz for everyone involved.

“The atmosphere at the Games was amazing and I was lucky enough to host live at the iconic Sandwell Aquatics Centre and be part of the action.

“I’m honoured to be a part of an illustrious line up of previous hosts from the awards over the past few years and I’ll do my best to do them and the aquatics community proud.

“I’ve represented both my dual nationalities and feel extremely lucky and honoured to have achieved my dreams doing the sport I love and I know that so many people have got so much to celebrate this year.

“I look forward to seeing you all there on the day!”
