Swim England helps Total Fitness rollout baby and toddler swimming lessons

It’s never too early to start swimming – and now leisure operator Total Fitness has teamed up with Swim England to ensure that’s the case for youngsters across its portfolio of clubs.

Baby and Toddler Swimming Lessons have been launched by Total Fitness with a new cohort of Baby Swim Coaches being trained and educated by the national governing body.

The lessons are being delivered across three age categories – 0-12 months, 12-24 months and 24-36 months and are available for both members and non-members, offering opportunities for water exploration and confidence building which are important to learn from an early age.

The new Baby Swim Coaches will all be completing the Swim England Qualifications Level 2 Teaching Swimming to Babies and Toddlers course, which has been endorsed as meeting the requirements of the professional standard for swimming teachers working with children under five.

This enables those delivering the sessions to effectively plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate babies and toddlers swimming lessons independently – as well as giving them the skills and confidence to provide engaging, high quality, and interactive learning experiences, setting your child up for a lifelong love of the water.

Alex Hains, Swim England’s head of business engagement, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Total Fitness with the rollout of its Baby and Toddler Swim lessons.

“It is never too early to learn a key life skill and we are proud to partner with a company that values this alongside ensuring a great experience in the water.

“We are really looking forward to supporting Total Fitness and the baby swim coaches with their qualifications and ongoing training opportunities – and can’t wait to see the lessons in action.”

Really excited

Total Fitness has 15 clubs across the North of England and Wales and the lessons will be available during 50 weeks of the year across both weekdays and weekends.

Responding to the demand for feedback and a relationship with the swim coach as highlighted by parents at the in-depth research stage, Total Fitness will offer a unique 10-minute session for dedicated feedback included within the 40-minute lesson.

Kerry Curtis, brand development director at Total Fitness, added: “We’re really excited to launch our Baby and Toddler Swim lessons.

“As with any new product development at Total Fitness, we start with insight first. We spoke to a lot of parents to understand how we can create a product that truly meets their needs.

“We know how important our pools are to our members as 77 per cent of our new joiners cite the pool as the main reason for joining, so the launch of our Baby Swim Programme  is just the first enhancement of our poolside experience that strengthens our commitment to lifelong fitness.

“We’re looking forward to the rollout of our lessons across our clubs, and welcoming new team members who are keen to develop their careers with us.”

The launch of the new Baby Swim Lessons gives Total Fitness an exciting new opportunity to recruit fun, enthusiastic swim professionals who are full of energy and have a passion for delivering innovative lessons.
