Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation

The Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation is our quality mark for swim schools and operators delivering the Learn to Swim Programme.

Why become Accredited?

Learn to Swim Accreditation recognises excellence in governance, sustainability and effectiveness and raises the profile of your Learn to Swim Programme offer. Most importantly, being an Accredited provider demonstrates that you are delivering the best possible Learn to Swim experience for all!

Who can apply for Learn to Swim Accreditation?

Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation is available to all organisations in England delivering a Learn to Swim Programme.

This includes swim schools, school swimming programmes, local authority operators, leisure trusts, private leisure providers and multi-site organisations.

Learn to Swim Accreditation benefits

In addition to all the benefits that come with Swim School Membership, once Accredited, you will receive an e-certificate, personalised plaque and the Swim England Accredited Provider logo.

These quality marks can be displayed at your centre and used on all your promotional material to help parents and learners identify you as a Learn to Swim Accredited Provider.

All Accredited providers are featured on our Swim School Directory with a Learn to Swim Accreditation mark next to their name. This means you can be easily differentiated and located by customers, nationwide.

How to apply

Check you meet the criteria listed below and email Right Directions to express your interest in getting Accredited.

Accreditation criteria

To become an Accredited provider, you will be assessed on the following key business areas:

  • Business development
  • Compliance
  • Workforce development
  • Swimmer pathway
  • Class structures and programming
  • Marketing and communications
  • Quality assurance and customer satisfaction
Apply for Accreditation
  • Download the guidance criteria.
  • Assess whether your Learn to Swim provision reaches the required standard.
  • If not (yet), create and apply an action plan to ensure you can achieve the Accreditation.
  • Once you have reached the minimum criteria, you can apply for a site assessment visit.
Choosing your assessment route

Providers can choose to be assessed in one of two ways:

  1. A Swim England assessment day.
    This is completed in partnership with Right Directions. It involves a one day site visit by an assessor experienced in running Learn to Swim Programmes and assessing industry standards.
  2. Via Sport England’s Quest Plus assessment.
    This allows you to apply as part of your Sport England Quest assessment process. Providers who use Sport England’s Quest programme can apply through the Quest Plus programme. Simply choose Swim England Learn to Swim Accreditation and Swimming Lessons as part of your Quest Plus optional modules.
