Thousands sign up to take part in Big School Swim 2019

Almost 65,000 pupils will be taking part in Swim England’s Big School Swim 2019.

More than 5,000 primary schools from across the country have already registered to take part in the event from Monday 11 to Friday 15 November.

And there is still time to sign up to the Big School Swim before the deadline of 5pm on Wednesday 6 November.

One lucky school that has signed up to take part in the event will win a trip to Alton Towers Waterpark for 35 pupils and their teachers.

The Big School Swim is an annual event that aims to help schools and lesson providers reinforce why it’s so important that swimming takes place in PE lessons – and how to make those lessons fun and enjoyable.

Jon Glenn, Swim England Learn to Swim director, said: “The Big School Swim 2019 is bigger and better than ever before.

“It is a great opportunity for schools and their pupils to celebrate the fun – and importance – of learning how to swim and stay safe in the water.

“We’re thrilled that so many schools and pupils will be taking part this year but there is still time for even more to join in.”

A number of events will take place during the week as part of the celebrations to mark Swim England’s 150th anniversary.

Special activity packs have been created for schools to download and six special 150th-themed lessons have also been created for the event.
