In British Swimming you will find information about the world of high performance sport, including the disciplines of Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Para-Swimming.

The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Ray Gordon

Born in Belfast in 1945, Ray served in the Royal Air Force as an Electronics (Radar) Technician and began teaching at Monkwearmouth School in Sunderland after gaining a degree in Economics and Politics from Newcastle of University.

At the age of 51 Ray took early retirement and has since worked continuously as a full time volunteer for swimming.

His interest in swimming came via his son’s involvement in the sport. Since 1980 he has worked at nearly all the National Championships and international events held in Great Britain including the Commonwealth Games and European Championships, as well as at numerous events in both Europe and Africa.
 
Ray’s major interests in swimming now involve the development of Disability Swimming and Workforce Development leading to a Culture Change.
