Help children Get Safe 4 Summer

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the water, whether it’s on holiday by the sea, a hotel pool or trips out to canals, rivers and lakes. But, it’s important to know how to stay safe while having fun in and around water.

Get Safe 4 Summer is a campaign providing young people with the basic knowledge of how to help in an emergency. It's about keeping them out of danger near water while still being able to enjoy themselves.

The Get Safe 4 Summer campaign is aimed at children (and their parents) and tries to make children aware of the dangers posed by open water.

The objectives of the campaign are to:

  • Promote and raise awareness of the importance of learning to swim and achieving water confidence
  • Increase knowledge and practical water safety skills.
  • Raise awareness that organised, supervised water based activity is fun and safe.
  • Introduce new water based skills such as snorkelling.
  • Promote swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle and family activity.
  • Provide the information in a fun and memorable way.

With the support of the Swimathon Foundation, the ASA have been able to work with some Swimathon registered pools to run Get Safe 4 Summer events this year. Selected events are being held around the country, where youngsters are taught everything from how they can spot the dangers themselves to how to act in an emergency.

Parents can learn more about how to keep their children safe with our water safety tips or children can visit our water safety pages for under-16s.

Hold Your Own Event

The ASA invites leisure centres and schools to hold their own Get Safe 4 Summer event. To support you with this, the ASA has made available the resources online so you can print them and start to organise your own event. Please note that there are no funds available to support these events.

Downloads for all resources are available, from a Pool Event Pack which contains details about what, when and who should be involved, posters to promote the events and certificates to reward the young people attending the day. To receive these documents, please fill in the form below. Once submitted you will receive an email with links to download the materials.
