Qualifying for London 2012

After the drama of competing at London Aquatics Centre for the first time at the British Gas Championships in March, the best of Britain’s elite swimmers return to battle for the British Gas ASA National Championships at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

As well as national pride, this year’s ASA Nationals are the final roll call for swimmers aiming to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

An impressive 38 swimmers were selected to TeamGB after the first trials in London but there remain no fewer than 14 individual spots available for the Games.

Those remaining selection spots will be filled in Sheffield by the fastest swimmers - provided they satisfy the FINA 'A' time as highlighted in the official selection policy.

However, if a swimmer who has already qualified for London 2012 swam faster in the final at the first trials (also under the FINA 'A' time), they would qualify for selection.
