Teaching using the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway

Already the most successful sports programme of its kind, the ASA Learn to Swim Pathway is a refreshed version of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).

The Pathway is an all-inclusive programme which takes the non swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

The ASA Learn to Swim Pathway consists of four frameworks:

  • ASA Foundation Framework
  • ASA Learn to Swim Framework (stages 1-7)
  • ASA Aquatic Skills Framework (stages 8-10)
  • ASA Adult Swimming Framework

An important point to note is that learn to swim providers using the existing NPTS can continue to do so, as the outcomes and recommendations around delivery style have not changed.

Brand new resources including a Parents Guide, Teachers Toolkit and Games Pack are available to order from the Awards Centre

The new resources and refreshed programme provide a great opportunity for learn to swim providers to attract new customers to their learn to swim schemes, including attracting adults to the pool, not just to learn to swim but to improve their swimming.
